Where has my mojo gone....

I planned on scrapping all weekend and it's Sunday afternoon and I have done NONE!!! I have tidied my scraproom (better than I have done before), had a friend round for a scrap lesson, and made 30 cards for my mum (all the same and need to do 30 more) I've thought about trying the challenges on SO but just haven't been able to go there. Oh well. I did finish a layout on thursday so I guess that counts. Will post later in the week.

Instead...I am going to use my blog for a poll (sort of). Now I am back working, once I'm back on a reasonable financial keel, I am thinking of shouting myself a subscription to a kit of some sort. I know many of you get Tarisota or Lime Tart, SO are putting together their own and I know someone who got one from Scrapmuse in the States for a while. My questions are...what is worth it, which do you get and/or prefer, do you end up with piles of stuff you never use, what do you do if you hate it, does the surprise thing work for you?? etc, etc. I like getting stuff I haven't picked because it sometimes challenges me out of my comfort zone (of blue and green and chipboard lol) But I only have sons and don't have much call for heaps of girly stuff. I know, I know....I am a girl, and maybe this is an opportunity for me to stretch myself.

Please post your (very honest) thoughts in my comments and after Wednesday night I will draw a name and send a wee rak of goodies to the person. Sort of an encouragement to post and a thank you for sharing your wisdom.

Cheers

Hi Sandra I had the best intentions to scrap and like you did nothing. That's not true you made 30 cards. I made none. I get Tarisota and have a year long subscription. I get the "i want it all collection". I have loved getting it because everything is co-ordinated and I get to play with product I wouldn't normally buy. I will be honest and say though that I have not used it all and I have noticed I don't buy so much from my LSS now. The only thing I have never used in the collection is the fabric. Love the ribbon but never use the fabric. Tarisota will be having online classes in future to show what you can make with the kits.

Well I don't know that I'm going to be much help : I have subscribed to Tarisota (1 month one-offs as well as twice 3 months at a time) and love the goodies but ... not much scrapping action! I've also subscribed to Lime Tart (1 month one-offs as well as a 6-month subscription which ended in September) I'm planning another subscription to Lime Tart ... perhaps at or after Christmas: love their embellishment/altered art *stuff* and I get both 6x6 and 12x12 kits. Of course it's always a shock to see the cost of the Aussie kits on my visa (Lime Tart less so, because she has a fixed postage rate for NZ subscribers, but the cost varies based on exchange rate) ... so this month - even though I promised myself *no more buying* I've ordered the November SBO kit. I just can't resist board books and the SBO kit includes a Maya Road Lunch Break book (same as the *today you* class at CC2006). SBO don't have a subscription rate (yet). I like the option of being able to say *yes I want some inspiration this month* (and to support NZ scrapping shop)

Sorry Sandra ... I know that long story would be *no help at all*

Hi Sandra.

I can offer no help, as I am in the same boat as you, so would be interested to hear what others say! You can't really say you didn't scrap, 'cause 30 cards is pretty impressive.

Only had Tarisota for six months took me out of my comfort zone and I used papers that I would not normally buy and really liked them. Just had the obbession kit. Didn't use any of the last lot of papers. At least with Tarisota you can decide when it shows online at the beginning of each month.
Also for the other non blogger friend with scrap muse the negative lots of paper she didn't use the positive heaps of product you can buy cheap and not have to pay shipping on. I think they also show whats in the kit online now.

Well I've only just got the latest Tarisota so I can hardly make any reasonable judgement not having ever got another collection before. I'm going to see how fast I use the paper and decide if it was worth it. In money terms I would say yes, it is good value.

Like you, I'd like to try the others before making any firm decision.

I've had the Taristota obsession collections a few times. They are definitely value for money but I woukld never get them evey month. I just order one about every 3-4 months. There's heaps of product - enough for stacks of layouts and cards and if I got it every month I think I'd have piles of stuff which I never used. It's beautifully co-ordinated and presented.

They aren't cheap (esp when you add the exchange rate/postage) but they do end up being slightly cheaper than if you bought the stuff yourself.

My vote would be to go with Tarisota (I think they are better value than some of the NZ kits) but just buy one collection every now and then.

I have to say i have gone off the idea of a monthly kit - after having done the scrapmuse thing for a year - that was a bit different as i was able to add lots of cheap product for no added shipping cost so the fact that the papers in the kit usually sucked was not such a big issue - now though i think that there is always stuff in the kit that you don't use - no matter how good your intentions - if i were you and did not have girls i would be careful to choose a club that previewed the kit each month and gave you the option of passing if it did not suit as i found my kits were more frequently girly.

I have just finished getting tarisota - loved it but need to save the $ for over Christmas (only get paid during term time!!). A friend gets 'scraptivity' every other month & gets a cool set of tins in the kit as well as other cool stuff! I can recommend the SO kit (since I've been playing with it for the last month LOL). I like choosing my own stuff but at the same time love the challenge of using things I wouldn't usually buy & the bonus is that it's co-ordinated. The other bonus with a kit is that you are often getting it for cheaper than you would pay for retail. An NZ kit does cost less for the postage & I think there's some sort of deal like 10% off the third kit if wanting three in a row at SO?? check the forum - not definite on this one.
